6 games 960 levels No dead ends 44 languages

It is out now as Zippy Out!, free, on the App Store for iPhone and iPad (iOS 17 or later) and on Google Play for Android phones and tablets (Android 8.0 or later), and on the Amazon Appstore for Fire tablets. Version 2.6, with all six games, is out on all three.

You cannot get stuck

Every level in all six games can be cleared. In Classic, there is no wrong order that ruins a board, whatever you tap first.

That is not a promise in the marketing sense — it is how the game is built. A tap only ever takes a Zippy off the board, so nothing can ever be put in another one's way, and a Zippy that can leave now can still leave after any other move. Every level is generated backwards, each Zippy placed so it has a clear way out past everything already there, so every board is solvable by construction.

The only thing that ever costs you is tapping one that is visibly blocked. So it is a game about reading the board and working out who has to go first — not about speed, reflexes or luck.

Play it right here

The first three levels of Classic, running in this page — the same boards, the same rule, three lives and the same star rating. Tap a Zippy and it leaves, if its way out is clear.

Level 1 💛💛💛 ×0

Tap a Zippy!

A taste, not the app: three levels of Classic's 160, and none of its eight worlds' extra pieces — no sleepers, stones, lily pads, buddies or poppers. The rule that decides every tap is the game's own, exported from its code so the two cannot drift apart.

Level 97 in the real game, captioned “Clear the board. Chain a FEVER!”: a Zippy zips out along a glowing trail and the bar at the top reads ×34 FEVER.
The real thing. Bigger boards, and a fever streak that builds as you zip.

Six games in one

Every game has 160 levels in eight worlds of twenty, its own look, its own Map Maker, star chests along the way and a King Zippy board at the end of each world — 960 levels in all.

Tumble and Ricochet teach themselves in their first four levels, and get hard from level 5.

Classic: eight worlds, one new idea each

Twenty levels each, and the last of every world is a sleeping King Zippy to wake.

  1. Bubble Bay 1–20

    Learning to zip.

  2. Sleepy Snow 21–40

Sleepy Zippies can't move. Clear a Zippy next to one and it wakes up.

  3. Jelly Jungle 41–60

Mossy stones never move. Zip your Zippies around them.

  4. Moon Pond 61–80

A lily pad turns any Zippy that zips across it. Follow its arrow.

  5. Starry Deep 81–100

Buddies hold hands and leave together, so both need a clear way out.

  6. Popcorn Park 101–120

Popper Zippies go POP! The Zippies right beside them pop out too.

  7. Cloud Castle 121–140

Deep sleepers need two Zippies next to them to leave before they wake.

  8. Rainbow Reef 141–160

Everything you've learned, all in one place. Good luck.

What is in it

Three helpers, for when you want one

  • Peek lights up every Zippy that can leave right now, the best one brightest.
  • Oops takes back the last blocked tap — the life, the miss and the streak.
  • Zap clears the tapped Zippy and everything in its way to the edge, stones excepted.

Every fifteenth zip in a row wins you the helper you have fewest of.

Drawn in code, not painted

  • Every Zippy is drawn by the app itself — it breathes, blinks and glances about.
  • No outlines anywhere, and a twilight sky behind it all.
  • Direction reads from the shape, not the colour, so a colour-blind player sees it too.
  • The last zip of a level plays in slow motion, then the whole level replays in about three and a half seconds.

Beyond the campaigns

Daily Zippy, Zippy Rush and Relax open once you reach level 8.

A look at it

What it costs, and what to expect

Zippy Out! is free to download. There are optional in-app purchases — Zippy Plus, a starter bundle, and berry packs for the Wardrobe — and a one-hour Zippy Plus trial that costs nothing. There is no subscription and nothing renews or charges automatically, ever.

The game shows ads, so it is fair to say so plainly. You can choose to watch one for a reward, and there is a full-screen one between levels — but only after level 15, and never more than a few in a day. Ads are never personalised, for anyone, anywhere, and are limited to general-audience content. Zippy Plus removes the between-level ads.

In Zippy TV there are no full-screen ads — just a small banner while you watch, and none with Zippy Plus.

There are no accounts, no sign-in and no chat. The one permission the game ever asks for is an optional daily reminder, and only if you turn it on. The full privacy policy sets out exactly what reaches the network and what does not.

Common questions

Where can I get it?

It is free on the App Store for iPhone and iPad, on Google Play for Android, and on the Amazon Appstore for Fire tablets.

Which devices does it need?

iPhone and iPad running iOS 17 or later, an Android phone or tablet running Android 8.0 or later, or an Amazon Fire tablet.

Can I get stuck and have to restart?

Every level in all six games can be cleared — there are no dead-end boards. In Classic, no move can make a level unwinnable: a tap only ever takes a Zippy off the board, so every board is solvable however you start, and only tapping a Zippy that is blocked costs you anything.

Is it for children?

The tone is gentle, there is no chat and no sign-in, but it is not a kids' app: it shows ads from a third party, so it stays out of the App Store's Kids Category and out of Google Play's Designed for Families programme. On Google Play and the Amazon Appstore it is for ages 13 and over.

Does it need a connection?

The puzzles do not — even the daily puzzle is worked out from the date rather than fetched. A connection is used to load ads, to handle a purchase, to send the game's anonymous usage numbers (a switch in Settings turns them off), and, if you choose them, for iCloud progress sync and Game Center on iPhone and iPad.

What languages is it in?

44 languages: English, Arabic, Bengali, Catalan, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Gujarati, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Kannada, Korean, Malay, Malayalam, Marathi, Norwegian, Odia, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Tamil, Telugu, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu and Vietnamese. You can change the language in Settings. The translations are made by machine.
