What's inside

For new installs from 20 October, every storybook and film is free for good and every game is open for a free week for new families; a grown-up can then open the rest with one purchase or a monthly plan. Common questions

What is free, and what needs a purchase?

If Star Quest was first installed before 20 October 2026, everything is open for good and nothing needs a purchase. For new installs from 20 October, every storybook and every Watch & Learn film are free for good, and every game is open for the first week. After the free week, seven games stay free — Letters, Counting, Arrow Escape, Doodle, Balloon Pop, Piano and Talking Cards — and the rest show a lock. A grown-up can open everything with a one-time purchase, or with a monthly plan. The price is shown by Google Play before you buy.

I bought or installed Star Quest before it became free. Do I have to pay?

No. If Star Quest was installed on your device before 20 October 2026 — bought while it was a paid app, or downloaded free before that date — everything stays open for good. Android's backup carries that over to a new phone too. If you reinstall on a device that never ran version 6.0 and find games locked, email us with roughly when you bought it, and we will send you an unlock code to enter under "Have a code?" on the unlock page.

How do I restore a purchase, or cancel the monthly plan?

On the unlock page (behind the grown-ups question), tap "Already paid? Restore" while signed in to the same Google account. The monthly plan is managed and cancelled in Google Play → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions; you keep access until the end of the month you paid for.

Which languages does the app support?

English and Spanish. The games, the hub, the storybooks, the Talking Cards board and the captions in Watch & Learn are available in both, and you can switch between them inside the app at any time. Spoken Spanish in films and storybooks uses your device's Spanish text-to-speech voice, and a handful of Watch & Learn scenes have English captions only.

Does it need an internet connection?

Not to play. All of the content is inside the app and plays without a connection. The internet is used only to buy or restore a purchase through Google Play; Star Quest itself sends nothing. A monthly plan keeps working offline for weeks between checks.

What ages is it for?

Star Quest is listed on Google Play for the 6–8 and 9–12 age groups and carries Google Play's Teacher Approved badge. A good deal of the content — the Talking Cards board, counting, letter tracing, the Calm Corner and many of the storybooks — also suits younger children, while Chess, Star Sling and Drop Four stretch towards the top of the range. Each profile has its own difficulty setting (Easy, Normal or Hard), so children of different ages can share one device.

How do profiles work?

You can create up to six profiles on one device. A profile is just a name; nothing else is asked for. Each profile keeps its own stars, best scores, stickers, trophies, hero, outfit and difficulty setting, so brothers and sisters do not overwrite each other's progress. Profiles are stored on the device only.

Is there a grown-ups area?

Yes — the Family Room, behind a grown-ups question (a short sum written in words). There a grown-up can hide whole worlds or single games for each child, set an optional age band, difficulty and wind-down timer, see a weekly summary, and rename or remove profiles. Purchases and links out of the app are only behind the same question.

The narration is silent, or says a voice is missing.

Read To Me in Storybooks and the narration in Watch & Learn use your device's own text-to-speech engine, which is part of Android rather than part of the app. If the voice for your chosen language is not installed, the app opens the system's voice-installer screen so you can add it; you can also do this yourself under Android Settings → System → Languages & input → Text-to-speech (the exact path varies by device). Check that the device's media volume is up, too. The Talking Cards clips are built into the app and do not depend on a system voice, except for 11 short function words that use the text-to-speech voice.

Can I change the narration speed, or turn captions on?

Yes. In Watch & Learn the settings let you set the playback speed from 0.5× to 2×, turn the voice narration on or off, and choose whether films play one after another in order, in random order, or not at all. Captions are shown on every scene whether narration is on or off.

What is the Talking Cards board?

It is a picture-communication board: 390 picture cards in 37 categories, each of which speaks its word when tapped, in English or Spanish. It is there to support a child's own communication — a child who is nonspeaking, or who finds some words hard, can use it alongside their own talking. It is not a therapy tool and makes no claims to treat or cure anything.

How do I move progress to a new phone or tablet?

Star Quest has no export or transfer feature of its own, and no account to sign into. The only route is Android's own device backup: if backup is turned on in Android settings on the old device, the app's saved progress may be restored along with your other apps when you set up the new device from that backup. We cannot recover progress that was not backed up this way, because it exists only on the device. Purchases are kept by Google Play and can be restored on the new device.

How do I delete my data?

Uninstall the app, or open Android Settings → Apps → Star Quest → Storage → Clear storage. Either removes every profile, all progress and all settings. Star Quest sends nothing to us, so there is nothing to delete anywhere else.

Can I get a refund?

Purchases are made through Google Play, and refunds are handled by Google under its refund policy. You can request one from your Google Play order history. We do not see or process payments ourselves, so we cannot issue a refund directly — but if something is wrong with the app, please email us and we will try to fix it.

Which Android version do I need?

Android 8.0 or later. On phones the app runs in landscape; on tablets and unfolded Folds it also works held upright. It is not available on iPhone or iPad.

Reporting a problem

If something is wrong — a game misbehaves, a translation reads oddly, a voice will not play, a purchase does not open the games, or the app crashes — please tell us. Email support@plapl.app with your device model, Android version, the app version, and what you were doing when it happened.
